A visit to the glassworks
In the forests of Småland, glass is still blown the way it was a hundred years ago. We spent a day at the furnace.
The furnace never sleeps. At 1,100 degrees the glass glows like honey, and the gaffer turns it on the pipe with the calm of someone who has done this for thirty years.
Our Kupol pendant and Droppe tumblers are made here, each one blown by hand. No two are identical: look closely and you will find a tiny bubble, a breath of the maker.
Why mouth-blown?
Machine-made glass is perfect and cold. Mouth-blown glass is warmer in the hand, thinner at the rim and carries a story. It also keeps a craft – and a village – alive.
